New Release - Embrace by Cherie Colyer

We have another new release!

Cherie Colyer’s new Young Adult novel Embrace will be available from Omnific on December 20.

Madison is familiar enough with change, and she hates everything about it. Change took her long-term boyfriend away from her. It caused one of her friends to suddenly hate her. It’s responsible for the death of a local along with a host of other mysterious happenings. But when Madison meets a hot new guy, she thinks her luck is about to improve.
Madison is instantly drawn to the handsome and intriguing Isaac Addington. She quickly realizes he’s a guy harboring a secret, but she’s willing to risk the unknown to be with him.

Her world really spins out of control, however, when her best friend becomes delusional, seeing things that aren’t there and desperately trying to escape their evil. When the doctors can’t find the answers, Madison seeks her own.

Nothing can prepare her for what she is about to discover.

Dangerous, intoxicating, and darkly romantic, Embrace is a thriller that will leave you spellbound.

Cherie was kind enough to answer a few questions for us and share a favorite excerpt…

Omnific: Embrace is Young Adult. What drew you to this genre? Do you read a lot of YA yourself?

Cherie Colyer: I’ve always been drawn to young adult. I think it’s partially because I never fully grew up myself. But it’s also because young adult novels are fast paced. Unlike adults who might read through pages of back story or a lull in the action, teens want to be kept in the moment or they will put the book down and so will I.

Omnific: Can you tell us a little about your writing process? Where and when do you get your writing done?
Cherie Colyer: Most of my stories start with a scene that keeps replaying itself in my head for weeks, sometimes months. I start to ask myself who is this person and what is he or she doing. With each set of answers comes more questions, until I finally sit down and start writing.
I don’t have a set schedule, but I do write every day. My favorite place to write is on the couch in the family room.

Omnific: Since Omnific is all about the romance...what is your favorite romance scene in a book?

Cherie Colyer: This question was hard, because I’m a sucker for romance. Also, I wanted to pick a scene that wouldn’t give away any spoilers.

“Madison,” he tickled my waist, making me squeal. “It’s not a hard request.”
“Okay, okay.” I giggled and squirmed, trying to grab his hands so that he’d stop. “I know I can talk to you.”
“Good.”
We were both laughing by the time he relented.
My hands rested on his broad chest. My fingers traced their way up to his shoulders then over the muscles in his arms. He wet his lips; I wondered if he realized he’d done it. His hands held my hips, as if frozen there. When I leaned in, he cupped my cheeks.
Isaac’s kisses tasted sweet like chocolate-covered cherries and, just like the candy, never lasted long enough. I scooted closer, if that was even possible, and wrapped my fingers through his hair, pulling his mouth back to mine.

Omnific: Now, if they made that into a movie who would you want cast opposite you?

Cherie Colyer: Ian Somerholder.

Just in case you don’t know who he is, here’s one of my favorite pics of him

Omnific: And finally, are you working on anything new?? Sequel?

Cherie Colyer: Yes, I have two novels I just completed this fall. One is a middle grade ghost story and the other is a young adult paranormal about a brother and sister who must outsmart supernatural beings if they hope to remain human and if they are to avoid being pawns in a coming war.

And I’ll let the cat out of the bag. I was missing Madison and her friends so I’ve started to work on a sequel to Embrace.

Cherie also did the hard job of giving us one of her favorite scenes from the book – I know how hard that is to do, so thank you Cherie!

Third period afterward was torturously long because I was dying to get to History. I needed to talk to Kaylee. I needed her to tell me I was letting my imagination get the better of me, that Paige wasn’t waiting for me to be comfortable in my relationship with Isaac just to steal him away. I needed to hear that Isaac wasn’t a jerk. She might even know how Isaac felt about me—that is, if he’d said something to Josh, who in turn would have told Kaylee. God, this was turning into middle school again.
I marched into History glad to see Kaylee.
“Has Josh said anything about Isaac?” I plopped down in the hard plastic chair and dug in my backpack until I found my History book and pen. “Kaylee?”
Kaylee sat perfectly still, her back straight, hands on her book, and eyes on the chalkboard.
I rested my hand on hers. “Kaylee? Are you okay?”
Mechanically, she turned to face me.
She was really scaring me. I inched my desk closer to hers and asked, “What is it?”
She shook her head. “Nothing. I’m fine. What did you say?”
But I only saw a ghost of the friend I knew behind those deep brown eyes. “Nothing. You sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah.”
Mrs. Parris told everyone to listen up, then droned on about the Civil War. Until Kaylee’s blood-curdling scream startled half the class, including me.

Thank you so much Cherie for playing with us and sharing some of you new book.

I know Cherie would love to hear from her readers, so if you haven’t found her out on the web yet, here are all the places she can be contacted!

Author! Author! Blog Bounce

It's a new month! That means a new sale at Omnific! This month three of our contemporary ebooks are on sale for just 99 cents!

Stitches and Scars by Elizabeth Vincent

After a move out of the big city to escape heartbreak, photographer Katherine Thomas embraces life in a new town. With her two best friends by her side, she's ready to start over and not look back.  During her first major exhibition at a legitimate art gallery, Kate expects the inevitable nerves, but what she doesn't anticipate is meeting someone who—with one glance—leaves her breathless.  What happens when the charming mystery man disappears, leaving Kate wanting more?  Without even knowing his name, the odds of finding him again are stacked against her.  Will fate intervene, and if it does, will her old wounds prevent her from acting on the undeniable connection she feels?

Passion Fish by Alison Oburia and Jessica McQuinn

With $3 million for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art on the line, curator Eve Carwyn hardly has time to focus on the state of her love life. Struggling to escape the clutches of a creepy ex and looking to add some adventure to her personal life, Eve is off on a much needed escape, and a business trip to Boston.  But before she goes, her pack of dedicated girlfriends plan a send-off party that includes mind-bending kisses from not one,but two, sensational -- yet anonymous – partners.  Will a chance encounter and a searing kiss somehow end in a love match? Will her career take off or lie in ruins when the grant results are in? Join Eve on her whirlwind journey through intrigue and ingenuity, terror and true love. Once the passion fishing starts, her life will never be the same.
Passion Fish is one part romance and one part heart pounding thriller.  An innocent game of sexy distraction ignites a spark of love and a dangerous obsession in this exciting debut novel from Alison Oburia and Jessica McQuinn.  Oburia and McQuinn offer an intriguing, suspenseful spin on the games people play when it comes to love, and the surprising lengths to which they’ll go to earn it... and to keep it.

The Unidentified Redhead by Alice Clayton

When Grace Sheridan returns to Los Angeles to become a working actor, it's a second shot at a life-long dream.  With some help from her best friend and agent, that dream could become a reality, but at thirty-three, has Grace missed her chance at the big time?  Will an unexpected sizzling romance with the entertainment industry's newest 'it' boy shine an uncomfortable spotlight on her life?

Alice Clayton spins a playful and erotic May to December romance in this, her debut novel.  Clayton's funny, borderline neurotic heroine is perfect in her imperfections, and the off the charts sexual chemistry between her and her charming, yet blissfully unaware leading man are the true heart of The Unidentified Redhead. With laugh out loud dialogue and a super steamy romance that will get your heart racing, sneaking around in L.A. and dodging the Paparazzi has never been so fun.

New Release - Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

In case you missed it…Omnific has a new release! Last week Deb Anastasia’s second book, Poughkeepsie was released and we are so excited for our readers and for Deb!

He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him—just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he’s homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She’s the same as a million other girls—certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it’s not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives.
Blake’s heart beats for Livia’s, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

We were lucky to have Deb answer a few questions for us so you can get t little peek into her thoughts on Poughkeepsie and her writing process.

Omnific:   Was writing your second novel a different experience from your first? Was it a little easier knowing what to expect from the process?

Deb:   Yes. The actual procedure was easier. I knew what editing was like, the trailer, etc. Crushed Seraphim has such a different flavor from Poughkeepsie that the writing of each was a totally unique journey.

Omnific:   I have to say, while I love the story of Blake and Livia, the brothers’ story and relationships is my favorite part of the book. Where did your idea for them come from?

Deb:   I’m so glad you like the brothers. That whole plotline evolved from watching guys in the real world. At times they relate to each other so differently than ladies. You can hear them insulting each other, but they would also rip their leg off for a friend in need. I respect that. I wanted to capture that kind of brotherhood.

Omnific:   What is your writing process like? Do you outline or just “wing it”?

Deb:   I definitely know where the story will end. And I’ll map out certain parts, but mostly I wing it. I’ll head into a scene positive it will go one way and then the characters surprise me and I end up with a new plot point.

Omnific:   Since we are all about romance here at Omnific, what is your favorite romantic scene in a book? Without spoiling anything?

Deb:   My favorite romantic parts are Blake and Livia being kind to one another. They say please and thank you and I just love that. Romance for me is passing the salt and holding open the door.

Omnific:   So, if they made that book into a movie, who would you want to see in that scene?

Deb:   I would love to see Jonas Armstrong as Blake. I loved him as Robin Hood on the BBC. Woof. And he really could capture the depth that Blake has to have. Livia could be Carey Mulligan, because she would have to be strong in a delicate way.

Omnific:   Now that Poughkeepsie is done, are you going to be working on anything new (or maybe more Jack??)?

Deb:   Crushed Seraphim’s sequel has taken top priority and I’m totally excited to finish the series. Jack haunts me on a daily basis with dialogue and sex scenes he wants to be written. It’s fun to go back to that complete fantasy world. I have big plans for Everett as well.

And, Deb shared one of her favorite excerpts from Poughkeepsie with us as well (though I know how hard it was for her to choose just one!)

He smelled of mint and fresh soap. Livia put her hands on his chest and felt the densely packed muscles there.
Empowered by his adoration, she shrugged off her fleece shirt, enjoying the feeling of being trapped between his arms.
Blake’s eyes became stormy seas. “Damn it all to hell,” he cursed.
Despite his words, Livia believed she was winning this battle of seduction. Blake kissed her mouth and sucked on her bottom lip. He moved to her earlobe and breathed, “First, I will blow, then I will lick, last I will bite.”
Holy crap.
Blake blew a gentle stream of minty breath along the outside of Livia’s ear, down to her neck, and along the edge of her breasts where they peeked out of her bright blue bra. Blake took his time creating an elaborate pattern on her stomach, and Livia was pretty sure he’d spelled the word torture. He increased the pressure of his breath as he grazed below her belly button to the top of her jeans. He skipped back to her mouth and gave her another long, slow kiss.
“And now I lick,” he murmured.
Livia bit back the embarrassingly loud moan she felt building. He gently traced the same trail his breath had left, this time with his tongue. When he reached her breast, she lost control and grabbed his hair, intent on kissing him.
“No. No.” Blake held her wrists above her head. “I’ve done this to you so many times in my mind. I won’t have you rush me.”
Livia groaned and arched her back in an effort to change his mind. But his slow, sexy smile told her he was doing it his way.
“Fine.” Livia dutifully kept her hands above her head as he picked up where he’d left off.
His tongue had her making noises that surely scared the wildlife. He spent an inordinate amount of time licking just above her belt buckle. Then again he was back to her mouth.
He spoke through his kiss. “I’m going to bite you now.”
Blake began down the same flaming path on Livia’s body with his teeth, nibbling in time with her heartbeat. When it speeded up, he bit slightly harder.
After what seemed to be sixteen million glorious years, Blake was at the top of her jeans again. A light, almost invisible, mist from the gray clouds now gave the clearing a slick sheen. The cool rain and his hot mouth were ecstasy.

Thank you so much Deb for sharing with us! We love the story and are so happy for you!
